Structural Balance

Importance of Structural Balance

Human spine is the major part of Central Nervous System (CNS), therefore it is very important to keep the spine in proper position and alignment.
The spinal cord passes vertically through the spine together with major nerve supplies; the spine has its normal contour and sections – cervical (neck), throracic (torso) lumbar (abdominal) spines and sacrum. All these sections will only be able to function normally if its position in the spina...l column is normal.
The spine also serves as a pillar and controls the body’s intrinsic balancing ability. If this pillar is distorted, the centre of balance will be affected accordingly. There are various reasons for spinal distortion, but the major causes are consistently incorrect body posture, physical movements and habits.
The bad postures and sitting habits would lead to leg length discrepancies and this may cause an uneven pelvis which eventually results in a distorted and misalignment of spine.
Leg length discrepancies can become a common body imperfection but have not been given fair individual attention. The longer leg will force the same side pelvis to lift higher to accommodate it and that compromise will lead to the spine tilting according to the uneven pelvis.
The spine works well to support the structure and perform its role in the human system because it has the pelvis as a firm base holding it upright with support from its surrounding muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones. The pelvis also allows full flexibility for the spine to move according to its centre of balance.
If the pelvis is uneven, it is natural that the spine will tilt to a certain direction to compromise its position. This will result in bending of the spine from its natural curvature, the bad effect is - will cause uneven compression surrounding the spine, which in-turn causes discomfort such as soreness, pains, stiffness and numbness.

Cervical Radiculopathy (CR)

CR is the damage or disturbance of nerve function that results if one of the nerve roots near the cervical vertebrae is compressed. Damage to nerve roots in the cervical area can cause pain and the loss of sensation along the nerve's pathway into the arm and hand, depending on where the damaged roots are located.
Damage can occur as a result of pressure from material from a ruptured disc, degenerative changes in bones, arthritis or other injuries that put pressure on the nerve roots.
The main symptom of cervical radiculopathy is pain that spreads into the arm, neck, chest, upper back and/or shoulders. A person with radiculopathy may experience muscle weakness and/or numbness or tingling in fingers or hands. Other symptoms may include lack of coordination, especially in the hands.

Spondylosis
This is refers to degeneration of the spine. The term can be used to describe degeneration in the:
•Neck – called cervical spondylosis
•Lower back – called lumbar spondylosis
•Middle back – called thoracic spondylosis
Most often, the term spondylosis is used to describe osteoarthritis of the spine, but it is also commonly used to describe any manner of spinal degeneration....
As with many other terms to describe spinal problems, spondylosis is more of a descriptive term than it is a diagnosis. Literally it can be translated to mean that one has both pain and spine degeneration, regardless of what is causing the pain or where the degeneration is occurring.
Pictures attached show different degree of spondylosis which may cause morning stifness and pain either at lower back or neck ........

Slipped Disc

WHAT IS A SLIPPED DISC?

Between each vertebra of the spine, discs act as a shock absorber. "Slipped discs" refer to bulging, ruptured, or herniated discs. Numerous factors can cause this (poor posture, injury, etc.) When cracks occur in the outer layer of the disc, the material inside of the disc can begin to push out--the disc degenerates, eventually causing pain and other symptoms.

HOW CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR SLIPPED DISCS
Chiropractors don't "pop a disc back in place" using forc...e. Chiropractors use gentle low-force techniques. The process won't be a few quick fixes. To ease your symptoms, chiropractors develop individualized treatment plans which include spinal manipulation. They may also include therapeutic exercises.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: What happens during my first visit to a chiropractic clinic?

You will be asked to describe your symptoms (eg. When did the pain start? Does it come and go, or is it continual?) You will also need to fill out forms or answer questions about medical history, pre-existing conditions and injuries, and about your lifestyle.

Then, the chiropractor performs a physical examination. Often, X-rays are needed to determine the best treatment for your condition. X-rays n...eed not be taken immediately. You may return with them on your second visit.
